CPC product identification must match the listing (and no other product)

CPSC element 1 requires enough product detail to match the certificate to each covered product and no others. How that lines up with an Amazon or Walmart detail page.

CPSC's first required CPC element is identification of the product covered by this certificate: describe the product(s) in enough detail to match the certificate to each product it covers and no others.

When a marketplace compares your CPC with the detail page, a vague factory model name, a family name that covers several SKUs, or a brand-only line fails that test. Use the same model, ASIN or SKU that appears on the listing and on the product or packaging, plus a clear description.

If the listing title and the CPC describe different items, fix the identifier at the source (reissued report and new CPC, or a corrected listing) before you resubmit.

First actions

  1. Copy one primary identifier (model / ASIN / SKU) onto the listing, the CPC and the report.
  2. Add a description that could not fit a different colorway or sibling SKU.
  3. If the report uses a factory code, ask the lab to amend or reissue it with your selling identifier.
  4. Compare all three side by side with the free check.
