GPSR Article 19: four items every online offer must show

GPSR Article 19 requires manufacturer details, the EU responsible person when the manufacturer is outside the EU, product identification, and warnings in a language consumers easily understand.

Under GPSR Article 19, a distance/online offer must clearly show: (a) the manufacturer's name, registered trade name or trade mark, plus postal and electronic address; (b) where the manufacturer is not established in the EU, the responsible person's name, postal and electronic address; (c) information identifying the product, including a picture, its type and any other identifier; and (d) warnings or safety information in a language consumers can easily understand, as determined by the Member State where the product is sold.

The Commission's published Q&A treats (a) and (b) as cumulative for non-EU manufacturers. Amazon's GPSR guidebook adds marketplace format checks (address language, phone and email format) and requires each EU store to be submitted separately.

First actions

  1. Fill manufacturer name, postal and electronic address.
  2. If the manufacturer is outside the EU, add the responsible person too.
  3. Show a product picture and type/identifier that match the listing.
  4. Provide warnings in each marketplace language Amazon asks for.
